Olivenhain is a neighborhood in the city of Encinitas, California, located in the North County area of San Diego County. It is the eastern-most community of Encinitas, bordering the western portion of Rancho Santa Fe.
Homes in the area consist of mostly single family custom homes with relatively large lots. The minimum lot size if anywhere from half an acre to five acres. Olivenhain residents enjoy gently rolling hills, with small streets that wind around the hill country throughout the neighborhood.
In 1890, the area of Olivenhain was settled by a German colony on the Rancho Las Encinitas Mexican land grant. It’s name came from the German language and means “olive grove”.
German settlers built a meeting hall that still stands and is used for community functions like the annual Oktoberfest, Haunted House, civic meetings, summer movie series, and craft fairs. Residents can schedule the meeting hall and grounds for functions. It is a popular wedding site.
There’s a large network of recreational trails used by walkers and equestrians. Hot air balloons can often be seen in the late afternoons or dusk.
The neighborhoods are beautiful in the area, with homes that have seen a lot of tender loving care.
